Downtown Wayfinding Update
Project Overview
In anticipation of future growth and the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, CAP/ADID--in partnership with the City of Atlanta--is developing designs to update the existing wayfinding infrastructure that was installed in 2006 and requires substantial investment to maintain state of good repair.
The current wayfinding work will provide planning-level recommendations on three interrelated elements:
- The current pedestrian and vehicular wayfinding system.
- The introduction of new, tactical and creative placemaking elements that deliberately integrate local arts and culture and can support the overall wayfinding messages.
- The incorporation of new or existing smart technology/wayfinding elements currently in the right-of-way (e.g. IKE Smart City).
It will also develop a design intent that can be advanced into final design through a design-fabricate-install contract.
This work is funded through the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) Program.
Draft Design Intent
The signs pictured below show the current draft design intent. Future implementation work will use these designs as a basis for final engineering and fabrication.

Implementation
Thanks to funding from the City of Atlanta's Urban Area Redevelopment Agency (AURA) bonds, ADID is planning to install the updated wayfinding along key corridors in advance of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
