Shine A Light is proud to announce a partnership with the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta this holiday season, with the goal of sharing culture to find common ground and combat antisemitism and other forms of hate in America. The inaugural series of events is a part of Shine A Light’s larger initiative, working with key municipalities to develop city-wide programming that addresses antisemitism in collaboration with local governance, community groups and interfaith leaders.
Musical Intersections: An Exploration of the Black / Jewish Experience (December 17): The partnership’s marquee event will offer a deep dive into the rich tapestry of the Black and Jewish communities' shared experiences through music, dating back from the 1950s to present day. Hosted by acclaimed vocalist, songwriter, and band leader Dara Starr Tucker and world-renowned jazz pianist and scholar Joe Alterman, the show will feature live musical performance, storytelling, and provocative discussion that has been curated to share the Black and Jewish origins of American music and culture. From the creation of the music itself to the dawn of the modern music business, this program examines the important, prolific and complicated relationship between these two minorities who, together, made American music "American."
