About the exhibition:

The exhibition is inspired by Vivia Barron's deep connection to water. From her childhood in Jamaica to her work as an artist in St. Petersburg, FL, water has been a constant presence in her life. This series of paintings celebrates Black Joy and the rich history and connection of black people to water. Water has played a pivotal role in shaping our culture, our sense of self and space, and our history. Come and experience the beauty, danger, and calming presence of water through the deep layers of green and blue in these stunning paintings. Don't miss this opportunity to be moved by the powerful connection between black people and water.

About the artist:

Born in Jamaica, Vivia immigrated to the US, settling in St. Petersburg, FL. Her initial creative outlet was food–she was a chef known for her extravagant, artistic plating. After the birth of her daughter, Vivia turned to painting and found inspiration in vintage postcards and antique photographs.
