About Full Radius Dance

Founded in 1990 by Artistic/Executive Director Douglas Scott, the organization was originally known as Dance Force and began as a traditional dance company - all members were professional dancers without disabilities. In 1993, through a partnership with VSA arts of GA and Shepherd Center, Douglas began teaching dance classes for persons with physical disabilities. In 1995, he invited dancers with disabilities into the company. In 1998, Dance Force was rebranded as Full Radius Dance.

Full Radius Dance occupies a unique niche within Georgia as the only professional dance company working in the field of physically integrated dance; in that respect, Full Radius Dance enhances Georgia’s arts and culture through physical and artistic diversity. The company confronts the status quo. As an art form, dance has historically been performed by what is considered, by many, as the ideal body; therefore, when a disabled body appears on stage it’s a radical act. It challenges what dance has been and what it can be. It defies society’s conception of the dancing body.
