The Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT), in partnership with the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District (ADID), is excited to announce the completion of improvements to Forsyth Street in Downtown Atlanta. The project leveraged ATLDOT’s annual repaving program to deliver critical safety and mobility enhancements along the corridor in support of Atlanta’s goal to eliminate fatal and serious crashes on city streets by 2040.

The project resurfaced nearly a mile of roadway on Forsyth Street between Carnegie Way and Memorial Drive in Downtown Atlanta and incorporated key safety recommendations from the Atlanta Vision Zero Action Plan. These improvements include intersection daylighting in the Fairlie Poplar District, upgraded ADA ramps, a 25mph posted speed limit, and protected bicycle/LIT (light individual transportation) lanes in South Downtown.

Forsyth St. is now an integral part of the City of Atlanta’s growing cycling network: the new dedicated lanes provide a direct connection to recently completed bicycle/LIT facilities on M.L.K. Jr. Dr. and Trinity Ave. and will connect to the planned Cycle Atlanta project on Whitehall St.

Funding for this project was provided by the City of Atlanta LMIG Resurfacing Program, District 4 Councilmember Jason Dozier’s Office, and ADID.

Come celebrate this project with a ribbon cutting and inaugural bike ride on March 11th at 11 AM!
