Don't miss Sue Youngblood's type-walking tour of Atlanta's historic Auburn Avenue!

In past years, graphic designer and educator Sue Youngblood has shared the typographical richness of Midtown and Downtown with the MODA Community. Now she's taking us on a new adventure on Auburn Avenue! Join us to discover the typographic richness of one of Atlanta's most historically and culturally rich thoroughfares!

During the 1920s, Auburn Avenue was the commercial center of Black Atlanta. Fortune Magazine named it "The richest Negro street in America" in 1956. The center of the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on Auburn Avenue and preached on the street, which is now home to The King Center, founded by Coretta Scott King.

This event is your opportunity to engage with MODA staff and local community leaders to learn more about Atlanta's Beloved Community through a fresh perspective as we study building names, street signs, wayfinding plaques, abandoned signs, and graffiti.

Registration Fee

$5 / Free for MODA Members. Registration fees will be donated to AIGA's Scholarship Fund.

Meeting Place

Please meet us at the Martin Luther King Historic Site Parking Lot. Although there’s parking in surrounding streets, they are narrow, and it may take some hunting to find a spot. We also encourage carpooling!
