The Auburn Avenue Research Library, in collaboration with Atlanta Chapter of the Links, Inc.’s International Trends and Services Facet, will host a community event on the history of Carnavale in Brazil and the opportunities for advancement of Afro-Brazilians. The committee co-chair, Avarita L. Hanson states; “this program continues and extends the Atlanta Chapter of the Links’ educational, cultural and support programs for Afro-descendants in Brazil and with the Brazilian community in Atlanta." This event features two speakers: Ms. Corina Brito, musician and arts educator and administrator, who will provide the historical aspects of Carnavale; and Dr. Erica L. Williams, Spelman College Professor of Anthropology, who will address the plight of Afro Brazilians. Attendees will experience Carnavale through the Samba rhythms, music and dancers of Batuque Brasil drummers and Dance Brasil. This event is free and open to the public at 101 Auburn Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30303.
