The Autism Conference & Expo of Georgia is an annual event that provides an unparalleled opportunity for sharing knowledge and resources about supports for individuals with autism and their families in Georgia. The Autism Conference & Expo represents the collaboration and contributions of an alliance of leading self-advocates, family members, community partners, state agencies, and other stakeholders. This conference is an important component of the Autism Plan for Georgia.

The 2023 Autism Conference and Expo of Georgia will be held on May 17th at Georgia State University. Located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, the conference is close to public transportation and the Georgia State Capitol.

”Framing the Future” represents proactively identifying or discussing potential solutions to current issues, challenges, or concerns experienced by the autism community. Thus, breakout sessions that are solution focused on topics with potential for widespread community impact will be prioritized.

The 2023 Autism Conference & Expo of Georgia's Keynote Speaker will be Fredrick Bishop, MBA.

A Georgian by birth, Mr. Bishop was identified with autism at the age of 4. With his loving and devoted mother, grandparents, and stepfather, Mr. Bishop was coached to navigate the hurdles of childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood. Despite numerous challenges, he and his devoted family have established a firm educational and occupational foundation, resulting in Mr Bishop becoming an ambitious young professional.

Mr. Bishop is currently a Communications Operator for the City of East Point, Advisory Council Member at SageNavigator, and active collaborator with numerous autism advocacy projects in Georgia.

This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award is for Dr. Samuel Fernandez Carriba, whose career was marked by a drive to understand social emotions, identify children with autism, and his mission to compassionately empathize with the families of children with autism, his colleagues, and the world around him.

This posthumous award recognizes Dr. Carriba’s ongoing influence on autism and broader clinical communities in Georgia, the nation, and internationally.

His close friend and colleague, Karen Guerra (MS, CCC-SLP, Marcus Autism Center), will be accepting this award on behalf of Dr. Carriba, his family, the families of the English and Spanish-speaking autism community he served, and the many individuals inspired by his commitment to compassionate care.
