UPS Adds Healthcare Distribution Center
February 6,2013
CAP Member, United Parcel Service Inc., is expanding its health-care distribution network in five North American markets, including Atlanta.
In Atlanta, UPS will add a more than 90,000 square feet of health-care space within its existing two buildings.
The Atlanta-based package shipping and logistics company will also expand distribution centers in Burlington, Ontario, Louisville, Ky., Mira Loma, Calif., and Reno, Nev.
The new expansions add nearly 800,000 square feet to UPS’ global network of 37 healthcare facilities, which total nearly 6 million square feet of distribution space.
UPS announced the expansion of its health-care distribution network in the Asia-Pacific region in October, with the opening of three facilities in Hangzhou, China, Shanghai, China and Sydney, Australia.
Several industry trends are driving the expansion of UPS’ global healthcare network, including increasing globalization, complex regulatory oversight, and a growing need for specialized health-care services, such as temperature-sensitive solutions.
The latest expansions were driven by the growth of UPS’ health-care customers.
