WRS Inc., the developer behind a $450 million transformation of Underground Atlanta, has added two arts tenants.
FreeMarket Gallery, a contemporary art space, and a short-term immersive experience from a group called The Bakery will join the project, according to an announcement.
“These tenants will mark a new era of arts in South Downtown and their arrival is just the start of what we have in store for Underground,” said General Manager Craig Waters.
FreeMarket’s inaugural exhibit features 13 Atlanta-based artists. It will run through Dec. 13. The gallery’s goal is to bring new and undiscovered contemporary art to light.
The Bakery plans to turn 10,000 square feet at Underground into “a progressive and immersive art experience that will connect various art scenes around Atlanta.” It’s set to open in February.
More could be in the works for Underground in 2020, as Atlanta Business Chronicle reported in June. That includes a new hotel, apartments and an entertainment venue.
