Heery Selected for Statue of Liberty Work, Has New Design Director

September 10,2012

The National Park Service has awarded a contract to Heery International to provide commissioning services for a project to upgrade the mechanical, electrical and life safety systems at the Statue of Liberty National Monument. The Park Service’s primary goal is to improve safety for visitors and staff at the popular tourist attraction.  The Heery scope includes HVAC, building automation lighting control, electrical, fire alarm, fire suppression and access control systems.  New systems will also add climate control for the statue itself.  The park is open to visitors, even though the statue itself is closed.

Heery Senior Commissioning Agent Terrell Travis is excited by the opportunity.  “It’s not often you get to work on a national treasure,” Travis says. “We enjoy working with the National Park Service and are honored to be part of such an important project.”

Here in Atlanta, Mark Chen has been named Director of Design at Heery International. In his new position, Mr. Chen will be responsible for managing and revitalizing Heery’s design practice on a unified national basis. He succeeds Greg Peirce, who retired after 32 years with Heery.

"Mark is a highly respected designer and an articulate communicator whose leadership qualities and professional reputation will bring enormous value to our design practice,” said Bill Heitz, Heery’s President. “Mark has a clear vision for taking the Heery design brand to the next level.”
