Broad Street SW Planning Workshop - Saturday, April 26th
April 22,2014
Downtown Atlanta is hosting the national conference of the American Planning Association April 26-30, 2014. Over 3,500 professional city planners from across the country will attend the conference at the Georgia World Congress Center. In addition to the many tours, mobile workshops and sessions, the American Institute of Certified Planners will host a “Community Assistance Workshop.” The one-day workshop is an opportunity for planning professionals from across the country to volunteer their time and talent to provide input and recommendations regarding a planning issue in Atlanta.
The workshop participants will focus on the Broad Street SW corridor between the Garnett and Five Points MARTA rail stations. A study area map is attached. The goals of the workshop exercises are to 1) identify specific blockages to implementing the community’s vision and 2) to establish a realistic set of “first steps” that will spur community confidence and lead to revitalization in the area. In particular, the topics for discussion will focus on
Quality of Life Issues
Pop-Up Community: Tactical Urbanism
Investments in the Public Realm: Connectivity and Aesthetics
