BDO USA, LLP Honored for Workplace Practices for 5th Straight Year

August 26,2013

CAP Member, BDO USA, LLP, one of the nation’s leading professional service organizations, today announced that 34 of its offices have been recognized in 2013 with the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility. Sloan awards are presented to companies that successfully use flexibility as part of an effective workplace strategy to achieve business goals and benefit employees by helping them meet their responsibilities on and off the job. This is the fifth consecutive year that more than 30 of BDO’s offices have been honored with this prestigious award, which is part of the national When Work Works project.

“As a firm, BDO is committed to being an employer of choice and our employees overwhelmingly tell us that managing flexibility and work life fit is very important to them. The BDO Flex Strategy is a direct outgrowth of our commitment to employees and staying at the forefront of workplace flexibility,” said Wayne Berson, CEO of BDO USA. “To be recognized with the Sloan Awards for five consecutive years is powerful evidence of the effectiveness of BDO Flex. These awards are especially gratifying because they use an employee survey as a major part of the evaluation process.”

When Work Works is a national project to educate the business community on the value of workplace flexibility by sharing research and promising practices, and conducting the annual Sloan Awards. First funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the awards are an ongoing initiative of the Families and Work Institute (FWI) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) to assist businesses in becoming more successful by transforming the way they view and adopt flexible workplaces.

The two-step selection process for the award is rigorous, involving an evaluation of employers’ programs and practices, and a confidential employee survey. As a recipient of the 2013 Sloan Award, BDO ranks as one of the leading employers nationally in terms of its programs, policies and culture for creating an effective and flexible workplace.
