Central Atlanta Progress Honors Five Projects in Atlanta Downtown Design Excellence Award Ceremony
November 10, 2008 - Central Atlanta Progress announced winners of the third annual Atlanta Downtown Design Excellence Award (ADDEA) during last Thursday’s Downtown Development Day. The event took place at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis with more than 500 people in attendance.
Awards were presented in five categories: Hotel, Institution, Office, Residential and Restaurant/Bar. They recognize newly created Downtown spaces that demonstrate excellence in design.
Winners included Hotel – The Ellis (architect: Stevens &Wilkinson Stang & Newdow, Inc.) Institution (Georgia Power Bright Generations Childcare Center (architect: Heery International, Inc.) Office – Cushman & Wakefield of Georgia, Inc. (architect: HOK), Residential – Oakland Park (Surber Barbert Choate & Hertlein Architects P.C.) and Restaurant/Bar Noni’s Bar & Deli (architect: Matt Ruppert, Noni’s owner). All of the projects completed their construction of remodeling between September 1, 2007 and August 31, 2008.
“We are thrilled with both the exceptional quality and steady growth of this competition,” said Tahmida Shamsuddin, CAP’s vice president of economic development. “We had 19 applications this year, and this really speaks to the tremendous spirit of creativity and innovation we are seeing in the Downtown area.”
Distinguished judges in the competition included Eric Capossela, Design Director with Atlanta Magazine; Richard Laub, Director of Georgia State University’s Heritage Preservation Program; Laura Moody, Director of Community Outreach with SCAD Atlanta and Scott Riley, Owner of RetroModern. The general public provided their input with more than 1,000 votes on the official voting site at www.atlantadowntown.com.
