Downtown Traffic Advisories
Enjoying and getting around the city whenever you would like seems simple enough. With a city as thriving as Atlanta, growing pains can be a reality.  But even with delays due to new development and construction, we can still get you Downtown easily and efficiently. We will update you on construction, possible delays, detours, and shortcuts to help you have the best information to navigate Downtown with ease.

If you would like to receive this information via email, sign up for our Downtown Navigator e-newsletter.

Downtown will host a number of activities over the next two weeks.  We welcome these events and look forward to seeing you Downtown!  Please travel wisely, allow plenty of time, and consider your options - which include taking MARTA, carpooling, biking and walking.

Labor Day Weekend - I-75-85 Connector Work Continues
Georgia DOT will continue work on the 14th Street Bridge Improvement project during the Labor Day holiday weekend.  Multiple lane closures will be in place; anticipate significant delays on I-75/I-85 (the Downtown Connector) southbound throughout the weekend. North of the Brookwood Split,     I-85 SB will be reduced to two lanes and I-75 SB to one lane.  Six lanes will be open south of 10th Street.
Normally, Georgia DOT suspends holiday weekend work; however, this complex phase can be completed in 72 continuous work hours.  The alternative is to have these same lane closures for six consecutive two-day weekends. (In the event of inclement weather on Labor Day weekend, the lane reductions will take place the following six weekends.)
When: August 26- September 2, 2008 beginning at 9 p.m. (Fri.) ending at 5 a.m. (Tues.)

  • I-85 southbound will be reduced to two lanes near the I-75 merge
  • I-75 southbound will be reduced to one lane at the I-85 merge

Visit www.georgia-navigator.com for real-time traffic and road construction information. Please consider alternate routes, carpooling and MARTA during your Labor Day weekend travels.

Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard Lane Closure

Beginning this Friday, February 1, 2008 one eastbound curbside travel lane and the sidewalk along the south side of Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard will be closed between Marietta Street and the Georgia World Congress Center driveway at Old Simpson Street (just west of the railroad bridge).

This lane will remain closed for the duration of the construction of a new bridge associated with the Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard Phase II roadway construction. The bridge construction is expected to take 8 months to complete. A safe pedestrian path will be maintained on the north side of Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard to allow pedestrians access from east to west. Signage will be in place to direct pedestrians to cross to the north side of Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard at Marietta Street.
